Women’s Arts was founded in order to offer women more opportunities to exhibit their work and as a protest against inequalities in the arts.

WAAW made it possible to support women to participate, enjoy, and practice in visual and creative arts and to exhibit in all disciplines.  This also provided recreational activity with a view to improving their lives. Exhibits and current issues of interest can be found on their website and social media platforms.

WAAW worked with us on our third cookbook, Secret Dishes From Around the World 3. Their organisation came together to create a collaborative, mixed-media piece for the project.

Cardiff Foodbank and Vale Foodbank are organisations seeded by the Trussell Trust that provide invaluable services to the local community. They help individuals and families in crisis, through the provision of emergency food supplies.

We worked with Cardiff Foodbank and Vale Foodbank during our 2021 Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign. The project encouraged people to donate a specific item to their local food bank every day leading up to Christmas. We created a resource hub on our website with information about food banks across the country and promoted our free donation tracker to help people support their local food bank.

We also admire the work of Boomerang Cardiff – a local enterprise supporting the homeless, the impoverished and those suffering from social estrangement. Boomerang’s ‘Homeless to Home’ project ensures that all those moving off the streets into unfurnished homes are given a heavily subsidised pack of essential furniture and household equipment including beds, a sofa, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a television unit, kitchen utensils and a kettle. Boomerang currently runs an affordable furniture warehouse in Tremorfa where locals can buy donated items of furniture at a low cost, saving over 250,000kg of furniture from going to landfill between 2016 and 2020. Boomerang has also coordinated the redistribution of over £40,000 worth of food, and runs coffee mornings and activity days to prevent loneliness in their community.

Our Community Cookery School team visited Cardiff as part of the Secret Dishes From Around the World book tour in 2021. Whilst we were there, we spoke to Jacqueline Alkema from Women’s Arts Association Wales, who as a collective, worked to create the artwork for the Moroccan section of the cookbook. You can listen to the interview on our Share Your Secrets podcast, which is available for free via Spotify, Google and Apple!
