Here's what the Bounceback Food team have been up to!

Over the past 2 months we’ve been busy reopening our community cookery school in line with the easing of Coronavirus restrictions in the UK. It’s been brilliant to connect kitchens once again after a short break!

Secret Dishes From Around the World – Online Cookalong

In May we recommenced public events, kicking things off with our Secret Dishes From Around the World online cookalong! Thanks to our ‘Buy One, Give One’ model, each ticket generates a free place for someone referred to us by our partner third sector organisations. This way, everyone in the community can cook together!

The evening was themed on Bangladeshi food, but participants didn’t find out what they were going to be cooking until the evening.

Doi Murgi was the main dish on the menu, a delicious curry in which chicken thighs are flavoured in a spicy yoghurt sauce. We also paired the curry with homemade and chapatis and rice.

The next Secret Dishes From Around the World cookalong is in September and will be themed on a different country. Book your space now to avoid disappointment!

Stroke Association Live Well Programme

Throughout May we taught stroke survivors and their carers in an adapted Live Well programme in partnership with the Stroke Association. Participants swapped cooking tips from kitchens across the North of England, including handy stroke cooking products. We focused on helping stroke survivors improve their confidence in the kitchen again throughout the 4 weeks. We cooked Dhal, Pea & Mint Soup, Risotto and Pasta – delicious!

One participant said “I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the cookalong session today. I felt like a contestant in a virtual Masterchef show. Loved it!”

Live Well is part of our mission to educate in order to fight food poverty in the UK. Find out more about our mission.

Fresh Start Programme

Throughout May and June, we’ve been running our Fresh Start Programme! Fresh Start helps participants achieve the accredited skills needed to get a job in the food industry or set up their own food business. In May, 100% of participants passed the exam! Fresh Start also focuses on CV support to help participants who are looking for employment.

Fresh Start is part of our pledge to help people get into employment as part of our mission to tackle food poverty sustainably. Read more about our mission as a social enterprise!
