Holiday Hunger

Posted on

During the Easter holidays, we’ve been teaching young people how to cook at our Future Community Chefs online cookalongs. Congratulations to all our Future Community Chefs! Bounceback Food’s chef has helped participants with fundamental cooking skills, improving their confidence in the kitchen. They’ve also learned how to cook healthier alternatives such as veggie burgers and homemade fries. Proudly displayed in the picture, a delicious berry clafoutis was a favourite among the chefs!

3 million children in the UK are at risk of going hungry during the school holidays. Without the free school meals guaranteed during term time, and with increased childcare costs during the holidays, families living in food poverty may find it difficult to feed their children. For many young people, their free school meal may be the only hot food that they have access to.

We’re committed to sustainably approaching the problem of holiday hunger. Through our Community Meal Drive, we help vulnerable people access hot, nutritious meals. We’re also addressing longer term causes of food poverty such as food education. Our Future Community Chefs cookalongs help young people improve their cooking skills, come together as a community and enjoy hot meals throughout the holidays. This also supports young people who may feel socially isolated during the holidays.
