Thanks to all the interns who completed our social enterprise internship this summer – the class of 2019 were superb.
Usman, who did a fantastic job focussing on digital marketing and market trading, has written a review of his time with us – enjoy!
As I commenced my second-year studies for my undergraduate degree, I wanted to gain some experience to boost my employability, especially as a marketing student. I carried out a few work placements and this summer I also undertook a two-week internship with Bounceback Food as a social enterprise intern. The main reasons I interned here was due to being keen to learn and understand the different elements of marketing.
I got straight into the tasks from my very first day. I was given the responsibility of developing the marketing campaign for a new cooking course Bounceback Food were launching in September. The majority of this task involved creating engaging social media content for each platform and adjusting certain elements dependent on the demographic for each platform. I also got tasked with producing the accompanying creative for the campaign. I felt part of the team by being given tasks to work on from the very first day and by seeing my campaign launch on social media!
Although I wasn’t interning for long, the experience allowed me to grow in the working world, and also helped me to gain new skills in developing marketing & communication campaigns. I come from a customer service background, however I gained different kind of customer service skills whilst here. I also got to experience market trading which helped me to develop customer relationships in person. The main thing I learnt was how important it is to create engaging yet relevant content for a non-profit organisation to maintain and develop their brand presence.
Interning at Bounceback Food has been a great opportunity, I gained a lot on both a professional and personal level. I have definitely enhanced several transferable skills that I can take away from this experience when applying for industry marketing jobs as I commence my third year at University this September.
Applications for our 2020 intake will open early next year, keep an eye on our blog and social media platforms for updates and details on how to apply!
