Here's what the Bounceback Food team have been up to!

This spring has been a time of huge growth for Bounceback Food! From spreading our roots through our expanded outreach programmes to planting new seeds in our volunteer family, we’re really seeing our organisation blossom – and we’d love you to be involved.

Growing Our Outreach

In April, we launched the first pilots of our new, expanded Community Cooking with Surplus Food workshops – a huge step for our local outreach. Within a month we’ve gone from running weekly sessions in Trafford, to launching over 50 sessions across 6 new boroughs of Greater Manchester! We’ve also been able to train new session leaders, providing a first step into employment in the food sector. Our pilots in Salford and Oldham last week got off to a great start and we’re excited for upcoming sessions in Stockport, Rochdale, Levenshulme, and Bury.

These ‘Ready, Steady, Cook!’ style classes tackle a range of issues surrounding food poverty and education. Each session, we take surplus supermarket ingredients redistributed by The Bread and Butter Thing project and turn them into a healthy recipe on the spot. Participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can come together to learn fundamental cooking skills and meet new people. We also encourage people to get creative with leftover ingredients and avoid food waste.

We’re really excited by the progress so far and are looking forward to delivering the full programme of workshops. You can find out about all of our upcoming sessions via our Eventbrite page.

New Volunteers!

We’ve been lucky to welcome plenty of new faces to our volunteer family this year. At our Community Kitchen, our in-person volunteers have been a huge help with meal distribution across Greater Manchester and other daily operations. Some of the team will also be helping at our upcoming fundraising Secret Supper Club and free Toastie Party events! On the online side, we’re extremely grateful to our new remote team helping us develop our Let’s Cook recipe and nutrition portal to provide even more value for members and beneficiaries.

As our projects take off, we are looking for lots more volunteers to join our team. If you’re interested in making a difference, we have a range of roles available and are always open to working with your current skills. Simply fill out our volunteer application form and we will be in touch to discuss a role that might suit you!
