Here's what the Bounceback Food team have been up to!

Summer Holiday Clubs for Kids!

Posted on

The summer holidays can be a difficult time for families experiencing food poverty. Without access to Free School Meals or affordable, nutritious food, many parents and children are at risk of going hungry. In fact, in a 2023 survey, 46% of parents reported feeling more stressed and anxious about the summer break than they were excited.

To help tackle this, Bounceback Food will be running a range of summer holiday clubs for kids. From cooking to gardening, there’s plenty to get involved with!

Summer Holiday Cooking Club

Thanks to funds raised so far from our Summer Holiday Hunger campaign, we will be putting on five Summer Holiday Cooking Clubs for children in receipt of Free School Meals in Salford, Bury, Altrincham, Manchester and Oldham.

Our Salford and Altrincham sessions are open to public sign ups via our Eventbrite page, and will be running:

Salford

Workshop 1 – Thursday 25th July, 12pm -2pm

Workshop 2 – Thursday 1st August, 12pm -2pm

Workshop 3 – Thursday 8th August, 12pm-2pm

Workshop 4 – Friday 16th August, 12pm-2pm

Altrincham

Workshop 1 – Saturday 24th August, 10:30am-12:30pm

Workshop 2 – Sunday 1st September, 10:30am-12:30pm

Please note – these workshops are specifically for families in receipt of Free School Meals. We welcome people of all ages and abilities, no previous cooking experience is required. If you sign up your child/children, they must be supervised at all times.

Community Growing Club – for Kids!

We are also excited to be hosting a series of Community Growing Club workshops specifically for primary school children aged 6-11 in Altrincham as part of the town’s Petal Pathway celebration events. These are also open to public sign ups via our Eventbrite page.

Join us at our Community Kitchen with your kids & take part in a hands-on planting, gardening & sustainability workshop. We’ll be picking fresh herbs from the nearby Altrincham Community Garden, making a fresh salad with support from our Community Chefs and planting some seeds to help inspire the next generation of gardeners!

These workshops are kindly sponsored by Altrincham BID via Trafford Council and UKSPF. They will be running on these dates:

Friday 26th July, 11am-12pm

Saturday 3rd August, 11am-12pm

Tuesday 6th August, 11am-12pm

Saturday 17th August, 11am-12pm

Please only book onto one workshop so that as many families as possible can take part.
