Nothing says home like a crumble!
For the filling:
500g |
granny smith apples, peeled and cored, cut into |
1 tbsp |
plain flour, sieved |
1 tbsp |
ground cinnamon |
50g |
demerara sugar |
For the crumble:
300g | plain flour, sieved |
180g | demerara sugar |
150g | butter, diced, plus a little extra to line the casserole dish |
1. Pre-heat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/gas mark 4.
2. Begin with the crumble. Combine the flour and salt in a large mixing bowl, then add a few of the bits of butter, breaking these down continuously with your fingers until small bread crumb-like parts have formed. Repeat until all the butter cubes are used.
3. Once you have combined all the butter with the flour add the sugar and mix.
4. In a second large mixing bowl, cover the apples in the plain flour, cinnamon and sugar.
5. Line a casserole dish or oven proof tray with the remaining butter, then arrange the apples evenly inside.
6. Cover the apples with the breadcrumb mixture and cook for 40 minutes.
7. Serve and enjoy!
Add some raspberries for a little extra flavour.
Apple crumble is great served with a side of custard!
