The natural sweetness of apples makes for a great partner with a variety of dishes both sweet and savoury. It can also be served smooth.
5 | apples (medium), peeled and diced |
50g | butter |
1/2 tsp | ground cinnamon |
1/8 tsp | ground cloves |
75g | demerara sugar |
1 | lemon, juiced |
dash | water |
1. Melt the butter in a pan on a medium heat and add the apples, sugar and water and cook gently for 10 minutes or until the apples begin to soften.
2. Mix in the cinnamon and cloves then reduce the heat too low. Cover the mixture and simmer for 10 minutes until the apples have broken down.
3. Stir in the lemon juice and remove from heat. Serve immediately or allow 30 mins in the fridge to serve cold.
Serve as a topping for pork dishes for a savoury twist. Can be served smooth by treating with a hand blender after cooking.
