Poaching is one of the healthiest ways to cook an egg, but it can go wrong without a little care. This easy guide will help you get a spot on egg every time.
1 | egg per person |
1 tbsp | malt vinegar |
1l | boiling water |
Note: This recipe is for 1 poached egg, for more eggs add ass many as you need and add 1 minute to the cooking time for each additional egg.
1. Place a small pan over a medium heat and fill with the boiling water.
2. Add the vinegar to the water and bring to a very light simmer; where the bubbles just begin to come to the surface.
3. Carefully crack the egg into the water, try to do this from near the surface of the water to ensure the egg does not separate. Cook for 4 minutes.
4. Using a slotted spoon or utensil, scoop the egg from the water, hold a tea towel underneath to catch any excess water then serve with toast or with a dish of your choosing.
The use of vinegar helps bind the proteins in the egg a stop it coming apart in the water. Make sure the that the water is never violently boiling as this can break the egg apart.
