Perfect for a summers day when you want to bring out the barbecue!

Ingredients

 for the burgers:

1kg beef mince
1 small  white onion, finely diced
2 garlic cloves finely chopped
1 tsp dijon mustard
1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsps tomato ketchup
1 medium egg, beaten
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
to serve:
8 cheddar cheese slices
8 burger buns
8 lettuce leaves
tomato, cut into thin slices

Method

  1. Add the vegetable oil to a pan over a medium heat, once hot add the onion and cook for 5 minutes, until softened. Leave to onside to cool down.
  2. Once the onion is cool, in a mixing bowl add the mince, onion, garlic, tomato ketchup, mustard, worcestershire sauce, egg and salt and pepper and mix all together until fully combined. Leave to chill in the fridge for 30 minutes minimum.
  3. Once chilled, using wet hands shape the mixture into 8 burgers. At this point you could wrap in clingfilm and freeze for another time.
  4. Now heat up a large frying pan/griddle pan with a 1tbsp vegetable oil – once hot start adding the burgers, cooking for 3-4 minutes on each side until fully browned through out.
  5. When the burgers are nearly finished add a slice of cheddar cheese on top and allow to melt.
  6. Serve on a toasted burger bun with lettuce, tomato and any addition toppings of your choice!

Chef’s tips

You can omit the beef mince for pork or lamb, or for a veggie option use quorn mince!

Add additional toppings like bacon, fried egg and avocado!

Serve with a side of homemade chips and coleslaw for a full meal.
